General description
Spiggin is produced in the kidney of male sticklebacks under androgen stimulation, and is stored in the urinary bladder. It is used as a cement to build up a nest in which the female lays her egg during breeding season.
Under natural conditions spiggin should not be present in the kidneys of female fish hence detection of spiggin in female fish is a sensitive biomarker for endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) with androgenic effects in fish. (similarly to detection of vitellogenin in the blood of male fish is a biomarker for EDC´s with estrogenic effect)
Product description
This product consists of a rabbit polyclonal antibody against spiggin from stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus), a spiggin standard and a protocol for ELISA.
The set of Ab and standard contains sufficient reagent to run three 96wells microtiter plates when the attached protocol is followed.
Applications
The polyclonal antibody and standard can be used in Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) as a sensitive method for detection of spiggin.
It is strongly recommended to carefully read the protocol before starting the experiments to insure that the materials not provided but necessary for performing the procedure are available in the lab and that sample preparation and assay procedure are performed as described.
