Detection of the egg yolk protein vitellogenin (Vtg) in juvenile and male fish is a simple and sensitive biomarker for endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) with estrogenic effects in fish. Measuring Vtg has become accepted as a routine screening test for estrogenic effects of EDCs in fish.
Many different classes of environmental contaminants such as industrial chemicals (e.g. alkylphenols, polychlorinated biphenyls, pesticides, PAHs, polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins, and dibenzofurans), “can cause adverse effects in the reproductive functions of intact organisms or their progenies, consequent to changes in endocrine functions” showing a so-called Endocrine disruptor activity. We offer a range of vitellogenin (Vtg) antibodies for bird, alligator, and several fish species. Click
here to see all vitellogenin antibodies available, or use our
search to find the species you need.
Biosense also offers vitellogenin standards from rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), Atlantic salmon (Salmon salar), common carp (Cyprinus carpio), Japanese medaka (Oryzias latipes) and zebrafish (Danio rerio). The standards consist of purified, lyophilised vitellogenin and are suited for quantitative analysis, western blot and semi-quantitative ELISA. Click
